Set of two original posters – "Now comes Jodewin" & "This is Jodewin" 1943

Designer: anonymous, signed with monogram "cd"

Publisher / client: Department of Public Information and the Arts. Nos. 123 & 124

Dimensions: approx. 54.5 × 39.5 cm (per poster)

A complete set of two original antisemitic Dutch propaganda posters from 1943 issued by the Department of Public Information and the Arts (DVK).

These posters form a diptych that was distributed in quick succession:

  • “Now comes Jodewin” – the announcement. Display period: 1 to 15 August 1943
  • “This is Jodewin” – revelation. Display period: August 16 to 31, 1943

The word Jodewin was an artificial insult, invented by the propaganda machine, but was completely misunderstood by the population. As a result, the campaign is considered one of the most unsuccessful and misunderstood propaganda actions of the German occupiers.

Condition:

Both posters are in good condition. The paper is sturdy and the colors are well-preserved. There are only minimal tears and wrinkles, consistent with the passage of time, but without any noticeable loss or damage to the image area. For posters hung during the war, this is an exceptionally well-preserved set.
