Original British Union of Fascists (BUF) party flag – England, ca. 1934–1940
Dimensions: Approx. 49 cm × 38 cm
Dating: Approx. 1932–1940
Original flag of the British Union of Fascists (BUF), the British fascist party led by Sir Oswald Mosley. The piece consists of a Union Jack with the official BUF emblem, the “Flash & Circle,” hand-sewn onto the flag.
The flag was used at party meetings and speeches. The emblem is made from heavier textile and firmly attached to a thin cotton base. The reverse shows only the original stitching, with no lining, reinforcement, or modern additions.
The BUF was founded in 1932 and banned in 1940, after which much party material was destroyed. As a result, original BUF flags are now rare and only appear sporadically on the market. This example is an authentic surviving flag from the active period of the party.
THE LEAFLET:
Not a BUF leaflet, but an original Mosley leaflet from the Union Movement, Mosley’s post-war political party.
Dating: approx. 1948–1952
Condition:
Original used example. The BUF emblem (Flash & Circle) is in good condition and made from heavier textile. The base fabric is thin cotton and shows signs of age and use, including small holes and light discoloration, consistent with age. No modern repairs or alterations.
